A. Tuition Rates

1.    The Berlin Consortium currently consists of six members: University of Chicago, Cornell University, Johns Hopkins University, University of Pennsylvania, Princeton University, and Columbia University; and two associate members: Vassar College and University of Notre Dame. Students from each of the member schools pay their own home school tuition. These schools pay the Office of Global Programs directly and then the Office of Global Programs deposits the money into the program's tuition account.  Students from one member school (Princeton) are registered through SIS under a special category which carries no tuition charges.  An international agreement between the University and the Freie Üniversität‐Berlin (FU) provides for qualified undergraduates in the Berlin Consortium program to enroll in selected courses at the FU. Compensation for the instructional services provided by that institution takes the form of Columbia's receiving a stipulated number of visiting exchange students,  and  in  providing  stipends  for their  partial  support  while  at  Columbia.  The agreement further stipulates that such exchange students may attend approved classes in the Arts and Sciences without being charged tuition. These students are registered through SIS under a special category that carries no tuition charges.

2.    Beginning on July 1, 2006 and effective beginning with the Fall Term, Columbia shall administer the Kyoto Consortium for Japanese Studies (KCJS), taking over this responsibility from Stanford University.  The KCJS consists of twelve members: Boston University, Brown University, University of Chicago, Columbia   University, Cornell University, Emory University, Harvard University, University of Pennsylvania, Princeton University, Stanford University, Washington University in St.  Louis, and Yale University;  and  two  associate members,  the  University  of  Michigan  and  the  University  of  Virginia.  Most of these members/associate members collect tuition from their students and remit them directly to the Office of Global Programs for deposit into the program’s tuition account.  However, five institutions (five KCJS member institutions on Schedule of Tuition and Fees: Harvard, Princeton, Yale, the University of Michigan and the University of Virginia) have their students registered through SIS with tuition collected by Columbia. Students from non‐member institutions register for KCJS through Columbia directly through SIS.

3.    International agreements between the University and four French institutions of higher education [University of  Paris I  (Panthéon‐Sorbonne),  University  of Paris  IV, (Paris‐Sorbonne), University of Paris VII (Denis Diderot), Institut d'Etudes Politiques (Sciences Po)] provide for qualified undergraduates in Columbia's program in Paris to enroll in selected courses at these institutions. Compensation for the instructional services provided by these institutions takes the form of Columbia's receiving a stipulated number of visiting exchange students, and, in some cases, providing stipends for their partial support while at Columbia.  These agreements further stipulate that such exchange students may attend approved classes in the Arts and Sciences without being charged tuition. These students are registered through SIS under a special category that carries no tuition charges.
